An Un-Conference - Teaching Contemporary Issues in K-12 Classrooms

UCBHSSP invites Bay Area educators to participate in an "un-conference." This participate-driven event will allow teachers to share and learn from one another with regard to how to approach contemporary issues in the K12 classroom.

Recently, we have tried to address contemporary issues through our Global History Series, lessons that respond to the racialized killing in the black community (housing discrimination, police and protestors, use of media), and immigration. We will share these lessons, and look forward to see how you are approaching issues from climate change to terrorism and from gun violence to economic inequality.

Potential Session Topics:

  • Conversations you want to have with others
  • Questions you want answered
  • Information you want to share/present
  • A project you would like help on

These topics can inspire your participation or facilitation of a session. (Helpful tips on preparing to be a participant or session facilitator at an un-conference.)
