UC Berkeley High School Ethnic Studies Initiative - 2024 Summer Institute
June 10, 11, 12, 13, & 14 2024 @ UC Berkeley
UC Berkeley holds a unique position in the history of Ethnic Studies as a discipline, and this summer the university will provide a special opportunity to high school educators who intend to teach this course. In addition to concept, content and community building, UC Berkeley faculty and librarians from the UC Berkeley Ethnic Studies Library will support educators with developing content and refining pedagogies for their courses. Integrated Action Civics Project - Summer Institute
June 10-14.
Explore Integrated Action Civics Project's (IACP) unique framework that explicitly introduces students to a variety of civic action concepts and strategies through the study of their History, Ethnic Studies, and Environmental Justice course content.
In this 5 -day institute, we will introduce strategies that can be integrated throughout your current curriculum to help students explore their sense of self, understand how power operates in historical and contemporary contexts, analyze the role of stakeholders, and learn about the ways that organizers advocate for and create social change.

K-12 Newcomer Educator Institute
June 17, 18, & 19 2024 @ 9:00 am in Dwinelle Hall @ UC Berkeley
The UC Berkeley History Social Science Project will be hosting a 3 day institute in June 2024 in support of our Newcomer Initiative and Resource Hub. K-12 educators will focus on strategies to design curriculum and strategies for newcomers and MLL students gain access to complex texts in the history. We will center student experiences; develop strategies for reading historical sources, vocabulary instruction, and bridging reading to writing through oral discourse; and create scaffolds to facilitate student ability to communicate their learning.
