Community Convening: Facilitating Controversial Conversations

Join Bay Area history educators for the first of three community conversations about history teaching. UCBHSSP will introduce participants to conflict dialogue pedagogy, model facilitation, and discuss procedures and context for leading these conversations in your unique context.

Our work on conflict dialogue pedagogy and controversial conversations is informed by the research of Diana Hess. Unlike a debate or other forms of structured academic conversations, these discussions do not aim to convince or generate consensus. Rather, the goal is to make visible the parameters of the controversy so that it can be discussed head on and we can practice listening to others with divergent views.

This program will take place from 9am-12pm in 370 Dwinelle Hall.
