  • Implementing the Common Core for EL and SPED Students: Creating scaffolded strategies to address specific needs
  • Discipline-Specific Reading Strategies: Adapting text-based strategies (vocabulary, comprehension, evaluating the source) to facilitate student learning 
  • Expository Writing Strategies: Adapting scaffolds that increase sophisticated writing in students 
  • Backwards Planning: Crafting focus questions to drive explicit planning for standards, academic literacy, and discpline-specific thinking in units of study 
  • Historical Investigation: Incorporating historical thinking into planning for student learning
  • Technology Integration: Incorporating discipline-specific literacy and thinking into web-based technologies

UCBHSSP workshops can be stand-alone sessions or part of an on-going series. A workshop series enhances collaborative planning and the implementation of new teaching strategies. Our work with schools spans single day workshops to multi-year collaborations, but the most effective collaborations occur over 3 years.
