Santa Clara County: Administrator and TOSA H-SS Framework Implementation

Overview:

The UCB History-Social Science Project is partnering with the Santa Clara County Office of Education to  provide an ongoing and collaborative space for Administrators and TOSAs to learn and share strategies for implementing the new CA H-SS Framework. Many site or district administrators and TOSAs have already been engaged in providing PD for their teachers or will initiate this process following the Statewide roll-out at SCCOE this fall. Whether Administrators and TOSAs are building upon previous partnership with the UCBHSSP or working independently, this program will provide a valuable opportunity for them to regularly collaborate with the UCBHSSP and their colleagues to discuss challenges and successes in training and implementing the new Framework at their sites.

While the primary goal will be to encourage collaborative discussion and reflection among the participants, the UCBHSSP will offer information and guidance as needed during the program. This could include providing instruction on the Framework itself, sharing appropriate understandings from adult-learning theory, scaffolding the development of new programs, or troubleshooting problems the participants Administrators and TOSAs are encountering.

Structure:

Tie into existing SCCOE structure with instructional leads, if applicable. Since the Framework Roll-out is a regional event, participants from throughout the Bay Area will be welcomed and encouraged to attend (not just from Santa Clara County).

Goals:

Support PD providers in implementing PD programs for the new California History-Social Science Framework:

Promote the group’s knowledge of the pedagogy, content and implications of the California H-SS Framework. Support and/or scaffold the creation of PD programs by the PD providers based on their particular circumstances. Provide opportunities for participants to share PD design and planning for feedback from colleagues. Facilitate a collaborative exploration of solutions to  challenges faced by participants.
