The CA History-Social Science Framework & Civic Engagement for Social Justice - 2019 Workshops Series

Join other Bay Area teachers in a series of three workshops sponsored by the Santa Clara County Office of Education in partnership with the UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project. The sessions will help teachers explore and start implementing the new California History-Social Science Framework with an emphasis on the Framework’s encouragement of student civic engagement. Attendance in the entire series is highly recommended but not required.

Session 1: Overview of the Framework - Overarching Themes of Inquiry - March 12, 2019:

Following an overview of the framework, participants will explore themes and questions that can reshape their course and inspire their students

Session 2: Historical Thinking - Developing Critical and Reflective Thinkers  - March 19, 2019

Join colleagues as we explore a set of historical thinking concepts and their implication for instruction and student civic engagement.

Session 3: Lesson Planning for Critical Thinking and Engagement  - April 2, 2019

With an emphasis on the implication of the framework on unit design and lesson planning, this session will provide a model for curriculum planning that connects current issues with historical content, context and analysis.
